One good day in Cozumel from a cruise ship
Make your Cozumel port day work: identify your pier, choose one main outing, and plan a realistic return with room for queues and changing sea conditions.
Read the guideWhere to base yourself in Cozumel: compare San Miguel, the northern hotel area and the southwest coast by everyday transport and the trip you want.

The right base can make your trip simpler. Start with the places you expect to use every day: restaurants, your dive departure point, a beach, or the ferry. A hotel description that says “Cozumel” covers a whole island, not one walkable neighborhood.
A useful starting point if you want restaurants, the passenger ferry area and town streets within reach. Check the specific address, noise expectations, stairs, and whether the route actually suits your mobility. A central stay does not necessarily mean a sandy beach outside.
Accommodation north of San Miguel may suit a sea-view stay with time at the property. Compare the exact distance from town, on-site dining, water entry and transport arrangements. Do not assume a coastal location means a walkable route to the center.
A base toward the southwest can work well when beach time or marine excursions shape the trip. Confirm where your operator actually departs and whether pickup is included. The convenience of the property may come with more trips by taxi or other arranged transport.
Ask about the room and property, not just the neighborhood: step-free access, elevator reliability, air conditioning, potable-water arrangements, noise, beach entry and any separate fees. Check cancellation terms and weather-related policies on the actual booking.
Coordinate accommodation with the dive plan before paying. “Pickup available” can depend on the pier, sea conditions and the operator. Ask who handles changes and how any transfer charge is calculated. Get flying-after-diving advice from your training organization and dive professional.
Travel, check-in and island transport can take more time than expected. A simple meal near your accommodation is often a better first-night plan than a tightly timed excursion. Save your most important activity for a day with enough flexibility.
