# Choose your Cozumel beach by the day you want

Compare sandy beach days, park facilities, east-coast scenery, and El Cielo boat trips. Know what to check before booking a Cozumel beach or club.

[How we research](<https://cozumelisland.info/en/editorial-policy/>)

For an uncomplicated first beach day, start with a west-coast venue that clearly explains its access, shade, toilets, and return transport. Choose the east coast when scenery is the main reason to go. Choose El Cielo when you want a boat outing. These are different kinds of days, even when the photographs all show beautiful blue water.

The best beach for your group depends less on a ranking than on what everyone wants to do. A sandy place to sit, an easy water entry, and interesting snorkeling do not always come together in the same spot.

## Playa Palancar: settle into a sandy beach day

[Playa Palancar’s own website](<https://www.playapalancar.com/>) distinguishes a standard beach day pass from an all-inclusive VIP option. This makes it a useful shortlist choice if your priority is reserving a place to relax and choosing a package that suits your appetite and budget.

Compare the current inclusions carefully. Ask whether your chair and shade are reserved, whether an arrival deadline applies, and which food, drinks, equipment, and activities cost extra. Do not rely on older descriptions that assume beach-club entry is free. Add your round-trip transport to the price before comparing it with another venue.

Pick this style of day when you would rather unpack once than move between several beaches. For a cruise call, check the club’s check-in rules against your realistic time ashore, not just the ship’s listed docking time.

## Chankanaab: a park-based day

[Chankanaab](<https://cozumelparks.com/parque-chankanaab/>) is a paid park with beach facilities and snorkeling options. Its published general-admission list includes toilets, changing facilities, and beach chairs; additional experiences have separate terms.

That setup may suit a group whose members want different amounts of time in the water. Before buying, check the exact swimming entry, equipment arrangements, and accessible routes that matter to your party. Do not assume every activity pictured on the park’s website is part of the basic ticket.

Keep the day focused on the experiences you actually want. A long list of possible extras is not an obligation to buy them. For marine activities, read our [responsible snorkeling guide](<https://cozumelisland.info/en/guides/snorkeling-cozumel/>).

## Punta Sur: give nature some room

[Punta Sur](<https://cozumelparks.com/punta-sur/>) combines beaches with a lighthouse and lagoon setting. It is a stronger choice when you want a nature outing with beach time than when you only want the shortest transfer to a lounger.

Choose it as the main event of the day. Check the park’s current opening days, included activities, and internal transport arrangements. Ask whether any boat outing is operating that day rather than assuming admission guarantees it. Keep wildlife viewing on designated routes and follow staff instructions around the lagoon.

If you also want an island drive, use our [one-day route guide](<https://cozumelisland.info/en/guides/cozumel-island-day/>) to decide which other stop to remove. Adding every attraction can leave very little beach time.

## Chen Río and the east coast: scenery first

The municipality identifies [Chen Río](<https://turismo.cozumel.gob.mx/negocios/playa-publica-chen-rio/>) as an east-coast public beach. The regional tourism board describes this coast as more exposed to wind and waves than the west.

Make the coastline itself the attraction. Do not interpret a sheltered-looking pocket of water, a photograph, or other people swimming as a current safety assessment. Follow flags, closures, and local instructions. If there is no reliable assessment of conditions, enjoy the shore without entering. Bring what you need for a comfortable stop and do not assume every stretch has staffed facilities.

## El Cielo: plan for a boat, not a road stop

[Cozumel’s tourism office](<https://turismo.cozumel.gob.mx/que-hacer/>) describes El Cielo as a sandbank reached by boat. It belongs in your marine-excursion planning, not as a pin to drive to between beach clubs.

Ask which stops are actually included, how long you spend in the water, and what happens if conditions require a different route. Wildlife is not a photo prop: leave starfish and other animals in place, and choose guides who make that expectation clear.

## Five questions before booking

- Is the entry sandy, rocky, by steps, or from a boat?
- What shade, toilets, and changing facilities are actually included?
- Are flotation equipment and guidance appropriate for our group available?
- What is the full cost, including transport and extras?
- What are the weather, cancellation, and return arrangements?
